Students use the library computers to work on programs such as Alabama Virtual Library, Grammar Games, Heartsoft, and Mighty Math.

These students wear unique hats to celebrate the Read Across America theme: “It’s Where It’s Hat!”

Emily spends some quiet time reading in the Media Center during Read Across America week.

Second grade students use nonfiction books and encyclopedias to find information for a graphic organizer.

Using the mobile wireless laptop computer lab, fifth and sixth grade students receive Alabama Virtual Library training.

Students check out the new books in the library.

Media Center Hours

Our Media Center is open from 7:15 to 3:00.  Students in grades 3 – 6 may come to the Media Center without a pass from 7:15 – 7:40.  They may check out books, use the computers or study.  At 7:45 any student may come to the Media Center but they must have on a Media Center pass. Students are welcome to come by the library at any time during the day with a pass to check out a book.  In addition, individual classes are scheduled for story times and for library skill and research lessons.  Grades K-2 are on a fixed schedule while grades 3-6 use a flexible schedule.

Book Checkout

All books have a check out period of one week; however, books may be renewed twice.

Overdue Books

Students are responsible for returning their books to the Media Center on time.  Please help us encourage them to learn how to care for books.  Students with overdue books will be blocked from checking out other books.  Students in grades K-3 are not charged a fine for overdue books.  Students in grades 4 – 6 are charged 5 cents a day for books more than a week late.  Overdue notices are run every Monday afternoon to go home in Tuesday folders.  Please let us know if there are any questions about overdue books or fines.

Lost or Damaged Books

Students will need to pay for lost or damaged library books before they can check out other books.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a computer-based reading program in which students read books on their own levels and take computer-generated tests on the books.  The program is used to improve children’s reading and comprehension skills in a computer-based format.  Accelerated Reader is used as a supplement to our reading program. It is not counted as a grade.  It helps them to practice their reading skills.  The computer assigns points based on the reading level of the book and the number of correct answers on the quizzes.

Six Weeks Goals

Students in grades 2-6 have six-weeks goals set by their reading teacher.  If a student meets his/her goal, he/she has the option of checking out two books-one A.  R. book and one non-A. R. book.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the A. R. program.

Students in third-sixth grade use the library media center before school starts each day, working on reports, reading magazines, checking out books, and using the computers.

Two sixth grade classes develop reference and research skills while looking up topics related to the pioneers and Westward Expansion.
