All Science Courses Are 1 Unit of Credit

9th Grade

Advanced Physical Science

A college preparatory course which includes scientific principles, chemistry, physics, structure of matter, and scientific observation.

10th Grade

Biology

This course will present a broad overview of the principles, concepts, and terminology for a foundation in biological science. Topics will include cell, genetics, zoology, botany, and human biology. The course is designed for the non-college bound student. It will help to prepare the students for the science portion of the AHSGE. Fee $20.00

Advanced Biology

This course will present a broad overview of principles, concepts, and terminology for a foundation in biological science.  Topics will include cells, genetics, zoology, botany and human biology. This course is considered a college preparatory course. It will help to prepare the students for the science portion of the AHSGE. Fee $20.00.

11th Grade

General Physical Science

General Physical Science will be a study of matter and energy.  Topics include the structure of matter, periodic charts, metric system, scientific measurements, aspects of motion, writing and balancing equations, magnetism and electricity.  It is for those students who have an interest in these areas and are average in science.  Skills in simple equation solving are recommended.

Chemistry

Chemistry is introduced to the student with a study of the metric system. Matter and energy are explored with topics concerning elements, compounds, atomic structure, and periodic tables. Students write equations, solve mathematical problems related to chemistry, and perform laboratory experiments. Participants in this course should develop the ability to think analytically. A strong background in math with a satisfactory grade in Algebra I is required for students enrolling in this course. This is a college preparatory course. Fee $20.00.

12th Grade

Anatomy and Physiology

Anatomy and Physiology is an in-depth coverage of the structure and functions of the ten major body systems, furnishing an excellent background for students planning careers in medical or related fields. Students who desire a challenging college preparatory course will also benefit. It is strongly recommended that Chemistry be taken as a preparation for Anatomy. Fee $20.00

Prerequisite: Advanced Biology

Basic Anatomy and Physiology

Basic Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the structure and functions of the ten major body systems, furnishing an excellent background for students planning careers in medical or related fields. Fee $20.00

Prerequisite: Biology

Physics

This is an advanced level course including mechanics, wave motion, nuclear physics, electricity, energy, and problem solving. Fee $20.00

9th-12th Grade

Environmental Science/Botany

This course is a study of environmental problems and issues with development of the scientific background facts and concepts necessary for analyzing these issues and problems. Students will also investigate the role of plants and producers in the biosphere. Emphasis is placed on major plant phyla, plant reproduction and genetics, photosynthesis and environmental relationships. Recommended for students who need only the minimum requirement of science.
